Altzola / Euskadi. The spa was very successful in the 19th century and welcomed a large number of people coming from abroad for treatment or rest.

Nowadays, the building overlooked by the highway no longer functions as a spa, but it houses the offices of the company which markets the water from the spring. According to legend, the thermal waters of Alzola were discovered by children who were bathing in the Deba River in the middle of winter.

Altzolako bainuetxeak arrakasta handia izan zuen XIX. mendean, eta jende asko etorri zen arrotzetik sendatzera edo atseden hartzera. Gaur egun, lautobide baten gainean dagoen eraikinak ez du bainuetxe gisa funtzionatzen, baina iturburutik bertatik merkaturatzen duen konpainiaren bulegoak hartzen ditu. Elezaharraren ondotik, neguan Deba ibaian bainatzen ziren haurrek aurkitu zituzten dAlzolako ur termalak.

Cuenta la leyenda que las aguas termales de Alzola fueron descubiertas por unos niños que se bañaban en el río Deba en pleno invierno. Sea cierto o no, en 1775 el doctor Francisco Platón envío una carta al Ayuntamiento de Elgoibar para hacer saber que el agua que manaba de algún lugar concreto de Alzola era muy beneficioso para la salud y que, por lo tanto, encontraran el manantial.

La station thermale eut un grand succès au 19e siècle et accueillit un grand nombre de personnes venant de l’étranger pour se soigner ou se reposer. De nos jours, le bâtiment surplombé par l’autoroute ne fonctionne plus comme station thermale, mais il abrite les bureaux de la compagnie qui commercialise l’eau de la source. D’après la légende, les eaux thermales d’Alzola furent découvertes par des enfants qui se baignaient dans la rivière Deba en plein hiver.
