Basque Country /Ciboure. Socoa in the Basque Country is a district of Ciboure that encroaches on the municipality of Urrugne . But it is Ciboure that that has a superb fortress.

This fort built from 1627 and reshaped by Vauban was intended to insure the protection of the port of Socoa and the bay of Saint Jean de Luz. A first crossed drawbridge, we enter within the Fort. The second drawbridge completes the defensive device between the tower and the residential buildings of the garrison. To protect it, it was necessary to build a military fort. It filled its role until the middle of 19th century before being allocated to the Customs department , then to the activities connected to the sail.
